Two broad fields of luminous turquoise frame a turbulent central band, creating a composition of striking simplicity and containment. The upper and lower sections are worked in confident, textured strokes of a single saturated blue, their heavily impastoed surfaces catching light across ridges and dragged brushmarks — calm, atmospheric expanses that read like sky and sea.

Between them, a horizontal strip erupts into controlled chaos: fractured passages of coral pink, rust, gold, and deep crimson collide and bleed into one another, interrupted by jagged slivers of the surrounding turquoise breaking through. This central register feels almost geological — a core sample or exposed seam revealing the heat and complexity held beneath a placid exterior.

The effect is one of tension between stillness and disruption, the wide calm bands acting as a horizon line that briefly gives way to a burst of intensity before settling again. The artist’s inscribed date, “2026,” and an impressed circular seal in the lower right ground the work as a considered, dated piece within the artist’s practice.
